Beer: Hobbit Juice
Style: Imperial India Pale Ale

Throwback to that time I was working in Connecticut and was able to make a small visit to Beer’d Brewing Company. After talking to the locals in Groton and consulting with my friend and New England beer scene expert Tish, this small brewery came highly recommended. The Stonington based micro-brewery is hidden inside a building along Bayview avenue that also houses many other small businesses. Once you find the Beer’d, you are welcomed by friendly servers who offer complimentary tasters of all the beers on tap. Being the West Coast Hop head that I am, it was no surprise that my palate wanted a pint of their Nelson hopped Imperial IPA, Hobbit Juice.

This is a wild guess, but I assumed that the great guys at Beer’d named this beer after Hobbiton, home of the hobbits from the Lord of the Ring series. Hobbiton is located in New Zealand whish is also home to the great Nelson Sauvin hops that we all love. Hobbit juice, killer name, was served flaunting a hazy golden amber body that somehow glowed through the tulip. Tropical aromas of grapefruit, peaches, and berries burst out from the bubbly white head. Hints of tart white wine and stone fruits are picked up as well. As you would expect, this Imperial IPA is hop forward and treats your palate with a hoppy, fruity blast full of peach, grapefruit, and tropical fruit flavors. Another layer of fresh citrus follow and makes this mighty 9.2% brew easy to drink. Medium bodied with full carbonation, Hobbit Juice was a killer find! A great brew from such a small brewery, thanks a ton Tish for hooking this up. The finish is dry, clean and crisp and leaves you wanting more fresh hoppy fruit flavors. If you’re ever in the area, check these guys out!
